Stitches Review

So this'll be the first review I do on this blog. A simple summary of the review process is that I'm reviewing the yuri of whatever I'm reviewing. The quality of the product is not relevant to the review. So keep that in mind. Unless something is so mindblowingly bad I won't be mentioning quality. Also, I'm half and half with spoilers. I'll sometimes spoil stuff, and sometimes won't. It's a case by case basis. If I need to spoil something for the review I will.

TL;DR version: It's a good yuri story. Go read it (somewhat NSFW)

Long Version

This is a longtime running webcomic made by Yeaka. It ran for so long that I just discovered this year it actually finished. So I spent the past week or so reading everything from the beginning.

The story begins in a fictional world setting. The main character, Lor, is a Rii. Rii are a type of being that have animal traits, and signs on their body. They all live in this school setting where they are walled off from the world. No one questions it, and live normal lives even though they are technically prisoners. Lor lives there with her brother Jak.

The story begins when a mysterious girl arrives. The girl turns out to be Niki, a Teeri that is visiting the school. Shortly after Lor encounters this mysterious person she finds that Niki has taken an interest in her and is constantly followed by her. She keeps wanting to draw Lor even though Lor doesn't like this at all.

Lor was raised to hate all other races, she believes Rii is the superior race, and doesn't like that Niki keeps showing up. She does her best to follow instructions in school the way she is supposed to, and doesn't question her life. Even though art is an expressive media she believes, like all the other Rii, that art has to be done exactly the way she is told to and that there's no room for freestyle art. To Lor, everything is non-fiction and things such as fiction and imagination don't exist.

Niki is the exact opposite of Lor. She visits the school, Angel's Institution, in order to find somebody. She goes with her roommate, Frou. Niki is a very calm, and relaxed individual. Even though Lor constantly tries to distance herself from her, Niki keeps trying to be close to Lor.

So we have this exciting relationship where even though Lor knows she shouldn't she slowly gets more and more drawn towards Niki. It's exciting, because it's not the same old relationship type re-used over and over. There's genuine character growth, and the relationship grows with it. That is what's so great about it.

There's also some sub-plots, and minor characters to really grow attached to, such as Jak's love interest and the minor character Sef. So the main love story is there, but is not always the main focus.

So just reviewing the yuri of this webcomic it's very high up there. Of course it's not just yuri. There's even a little bit of hetero and homosexuality in the webcomic. So do keep that in mind if that's not your cup of tea. Even so I have to give this webcomic very high recommendations.

Yuri Level: 10 out of 10.

If you're interested there's two different type of physical versions of the webcomic. The graphic novel version, and a novel version.

Do take note that both the physical versions do not have the extra stuff Yeaka has done on the webcomic's site. Which includes stuff like random sketches, random advertising, and random filler stories.
